Jordan's hopes of performing well at the 2012 Tour of Gila were dashed 70 miles into the 95 mile long first stage. Travelling at nearly 30mph, a rider in front of Jordan lost control of his bike, causing a chain reaction crash. Jordan almost made it through, only to have a bike bounce up and take him out. He got back up, untangled his bike from the pile, and prepared to continue until he got dizzy and nauseous. He quickly found himself in a neckbrace, in the back of an ambulance, headed for the emergency room.
He was scraped up from head to toe. They did cat scans and took x-rays, all coming back negative. His worst injury were a very sore knee, and slight ankle sprain. As sad as it was to be forced to abandon stage 1 of the prestigious race, we were very thankful it wasn't worse. We remained is Silver City for the remainder of the stage race in support of Jordan's team.
Unfortunately, his bike didn't survive as well as Jordan. The top tube of his Cervelo S3 was cracked, with a broken rear shift lever, and rear deraileur. His HED Stinger wheels also took a beating. Fortunately for Jordan, his Slipstream Craddock Team were able to immediately provide a Cervelo R3 in replacement. SRAM neutral support was kind enough to replace his broken shifter and derailleur. Finally, Ian at HED trued up his damaged Stinger wheels. Back in business. Jordan is healing very quickly, and hasn't slowed down. He finished a close second at the TNT time trial just 6 days after his crash, averaging 28mph over a 24K course.
